1. Metropolitan Police Marker

Inscription. Formed in 1836, the Dublin Metropolitan Police (DMP) was an unarmed force serving the city, distinct from the Royal Irish Constabulary which covered the rest of Ireland. DMP officers wore dark green uniforms and London-style helmets.

Though focused on local policing, the force was targeted by the IRA during the War of Independence, especially after Michael Collins’ ‘Squad’ infiltrated its intelligence unit, G Division. Support also fell after the DMP’s heavy-handed role in the 1913 Lockout.
