1. Additional details about the propert’s first owner
Esther J. Amsdell was the wife, ex-wife, wife, and then ex-wife of noted Albany brewer George Amsdell, whose large brewery complex was very close by, extending along Jay, Dove, and Lancaster Streets. Esther J. White, who was born in Guilderland, married George Amsdell in 1847. They had six children, then divorced in 1870, at which point she was awarded $50,000 in alimony, $20,000 paid in cash and the remainder secured by a mortgage. They remarried in 1874 but separated again the following year. She died in 1918 and

2. 1872 Esther Amsdell House with Marker to the Left of the Front Door

is buried in Albany Rural Cemetery in a plot with one, and perhaps two, of her sons. George Amsdell and his second wife are buried in a nearby plot.
