1. Clarksburg Cultural Center Marker

Inscription.
Construction of the Church began in 1844, under the tutelage of David Bowman, a staunch Methodist, and local businessman.

This meetinghouse played a very important part in the development of Millstone Township.

The doors closed in 1989, as a house of prayer.

Millstone Township acquired the property in 1997 and is responsible for its preservation.

The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, for its architectural value. Surrounding this treasure is a cemetery, a veritable book of Clarksburg history.

Today it serves as a place for special events and cultural and educational programs for the community.

— In 1920, five sets of stain glass windows, donated by local families, were added. Many descendants still live in the area today.
— The doors swing open to a center aisle 33' x 57' room. The 17' high plaster walls lead the eye upward to a herringbone design wooden ceiling.
— The building has retained its mid-nineteenth century simplicity, with the exception of the up-to-date HVAC and electricity. It has been carefully preserved to reflect its original appearance.
