No historical images or descriptions of these cuts into the embankments that are observed here exist today. Upon early investigations in 2015 by archaeologists, they discovered pails, barrels and fragments of coal on the surface.

The exact function of this collection of items is unclear but their general arrangement suggests a collection of storage cellars while the excavation of features into embankments suggests cold storage.
