Roland Roth Ecology Woods
This 35-acre urban forest allows us to study wildlife, ecosystem and the impact of habitat fragmentation on biodiversity. Professor emeritus Dr. Roland created an active research site here in 1972 to study the breeding ecology of the wood thrush, a migratory songbird that returns to this site from wintering grounds in Central America every April. For decades, students and faculty from the College of Agricultural and Natural Resources have researched mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plant life, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to and learn from long-term data related to the challenges faced by contemporary forests and ecosystems.
