2. Naval Cannon
This widely distributed postcard erroneously identifies the Schoharie Central School's iconic and historic front lawn cannon as "original" to "Old Ironsides." Neither original nor operational "but historically significant as a replica," it is one of 54 replica guns cast in 1906 to be displayed on the decks of the USS Constitution for show. This cannon is in relatively good condition after nearly a century in this Schoharie location, though efforts have been considered for a restoration of the cannon and its carriage. Regional tradition has students from a local rival school tossing paint in their school colors on the canon.
