1. Private Cecil Cleveland Waldrum Marker
This Frisco Commons Park Trail is dedicated by the residents of Frisco, Texas, to honor Private Cecil Cleveland Waldrum, age 27. Cecil was serving in the U.S. Army in the elite First Special Service Force on February 16, 1944, when he was killed in action at the Battle of Anzio in Italy. Cecil and two comrades called in an artillery strike on their own position to halt an enemy counter-attack on the Allied hold on the Anzio beach. Approximately 150 Germans had assembled near the house where Cecil and his fellow soldiers were hiding. Cecil was killed along with most of the Germans. The other two Americans survived. Private Waldrum is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

Just seven months after enlisting, he became part of the elite First Special Service Force. While on a mission behind enemy lines, Waldrum and two comrades called in an artillery strike on their own position to prevent capture, sacrificing themselves for the greater good. Private Waldrum is honored at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, and his portrait is displayed in the Collin County Courthouse as part of the Fallen Warriors Portrait Project.
