1. McTaggart Cemetery Marker
Inscription. The oldest cemetery in the former East Williams Township is located on the south east corner of the intersection of Petty Street and Coldstream Road. There is a marker at the site. The first burial was in 1831 and the last in 1895. The Township of East Williams installed gabien baskets around the site in the late 1980's to stop erosion.

The McTaggart Cemetery came into being through necessity. During the building of Godfrey McTaggart's home on their farm at lot 11 concession 4 in East Williams Township, their fourteen-year-old son, Neil, was killed by a falling timber. Since there was no local cemetery, Neil McTaggart was buried on the north west corner of the family farm. It is believed he was the first white person to be buried in the township. Neil's father, Godfrey, was buried in the same plot in 1837. Other family members such as the McCallums are also buried here. The last burial was another Neil Mclaggart, a grandson of Godfrey, who died on February 11, 1895. This Neil Mclaggart was a teacher and long time treasurer of the McPherson's Church. This cemetery is now maintained by the municipality.
