1. Brent Thompson Marker
On July 7, 2016 Brent Thompson and four other officers were murdered while protecting the citizens of Dallas. A peaceful protest was under way in downtown Dallas when gunshots echoed off of the buildings and chaos ensued. The police officers were the intended targets of the shooter and still the officers pressed on to put an end to the terror. Thompson, a Marine Corps veteran, charged the gunman without regard for his own safety and wounded the assailant. His efforts saved many lives before he ultimately lost his own. Thompson was and is a hero to his community of Navarro County and to all officers across the country. Thank you to all of those that contributed to make this memorial possible.
Officer Brent Thompson of Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police has been awarded the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor for his actions on July 7, 2016. This award is the highest decoration for bravery exhibited by public safety officers in the United States. It was presented to the Thompson family by President Trump at the White House on May 22, 2019.

On July 7, 2016, Micah Xavier Johnson ambushed and shot police officers in Dallas, Texas, killing five, injuring nine others, and wounding two civilians. Johnson, a 25-year-old Army Reserve Afghan War veteran, was angry over police shootings of black men.
