Mural: Our Wealth
This mural was completed in the summer of 2019 by Coast Tsimshian artist Russell Mather with the assistance of students at Coast Tsimshian Academy, a private school based in Lax Kw'alaams, BC. Russell Mather is an established artist and carver and is a member of the Gispaxlo'ots tribe.
The design, titled "Our Wealth", was created by Mather as a logo for Lax Kw'alaams Business Development LP which calls this building home. The design is a rendition of a grease bowl, a vessel used to contain Oolichan Grease, which is a highly prized product and a symbol of wealth among Northwest Coast first nations groups.
At the centre of the grease bowl is a mirrored image signifying two individuals coming to an agreement. Our business ventures are based on the premise of collaboration, and aim to create positive, healthy partnerships that will grow over time. Likewise, the center of the grease bowl design reflects this by focusing upward with the hope for continued growth. Moving outward on the design is a fish head representing the Oolichan.
Erected by Pembina, Transition Prince Rupert and Lax Kw'alaams Business Development.
