1. Pioneer Cemetery Marker
Some of the History of the Old Pioneer Cemetery and Saint Peters Church Seven Mile Bay. St. Peters Parish, Seven Mile Bay extends from the Aboiteau Bridge to beyond the mouth of the Dunk River, including all that extensive coastline and all the communities within.
As it is recorded in the History of St. Peters Parish it covers the areas of; Augustine Cove, Cape Traverse, Borden, Carleton, North Carleton, Albany, Searletown, Central Bedeque, Bedeque, Lw. Bedeque, Fernwood and Chelton.Seven Mile Bay extends from Port Borden all the way to Seacow Head. This is seven miles from point to point.
It is believed there was a Chapel on the shore before 1835 when Bishop McEachern was a Missionary Priest whom visited and administered the sacraments and conducted Divine service in the Seven Mile Bay Chapel. It is said that in the late 1700's there was a ship wreck just off the shore and the Priest and others survived, but four French sailors died and they were buried there.
The Priest later had the Chapel built at the Cemetery as a memorial to the sailors.
