The Belfast Historical Society
The Belfast Historical Society was founded on 26 March 1976. It is dedicated to preserving and promoting interest in the history of the Belfast District of Prince Edward Island. Lord Selkirk would be proud!

The activities of the Society range from research to publishing and from education to creation of a cultural centre. Included are sponsorship of a series of speakers, publication of books and a regular newsletter (The Recaller) encouragement of family and community history projects, placing historic plaques and arranging a cultural exchange with the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The Society offers two awards, the Dr.Angus MacAulay History Award to grade 6 students for outstanding history projects on the Belfast area, and the Selkirk Award for significant adult projects under the same theme. The success of the Society has been widely recognized. In 1991, the Society received a Canadian Parks Service Heritage Award. Two books, "Belfast People" and "The Past is Before Us" received publishing awards from the PEI Museum and Heritage Society in 1993 and 2003.

in 2000 resulted in restoration of the old cemetery, and moving and refurbishing an old (1876) Church of Scotland from Belle River to this site as an interpretation centre. The Highland spirit is alive and well! On 28 June 2006, the Society was the first non-Acadian recipient of the Petite Nytcale Award presented by the Sister Antoinette DesRoches Historical Society. It is their highest recognition, presented for preservation of the early Acadian/Scottish cemetery and dedication of a cairn on the site.

Comunn Eachdraidh Bheul Fearaisde
Chaidh Comunn Eachdraidh Bheul Fearsaide a chuir air bhonn air an an t-siathamh là air fhichead de 'n Mhàrt 1976. Tha an Comunn air òrdachadh airson gléidheadh agus àrdachadh eachdraidh Sgìre Bheul Fearaisde, Eilean Eòin. Is cinnteach gum bitheadh Tighearna Shailcirc pròiseil á toradh na h-iomairte a bha fainear dha.

Tha an lùib dleasdanas a' Chomuinn caochaladh gnìomhachais a thoirt gu buil mar a tha rannsachadh, foillseachadh, foghlum agus ionad cultair a stéidheachadh. Cuirear air adhart aig a' Chomunn cuideachd, taic a chumail ri òraidichean, foillseachadh leabhraichean agus litir-naidheachd (The Recaller) a thoirt am follais aig àmannan riaghailteach. Cumaidh an Comunn taic ri proiseactan eachdraidheil a dhéiligeas ri sloinntearachd, eachdraidh na coimhearsnachd, clàran cuimhneachaidh a chuir an àirde agus iomlaidean cultarach a chuir gu saod an co-oibreachadh leis an Eilean Sgìtheanach an Alba.

Tha dà dhùais 'gan tairgse aig a' Chomunn: Dùais Eachdraidh an Ollaimh Aonghais MhicAmhlaidh, a bhitheas air a toirt do sgoilearan aig an t-siathamh ceum anns a' bhun-sgoil airson phroiseactan barraichte a nì rannsachadh air ceàrn Beul Fearaisde, agus Duais Shailcirc a bhitheas 'ga toirt do dhaoine inbheach a nì obair shònraichte a bhuineas dha 'n aon chuspair.

'S ann fad's farsaing a tha An Comunn air clìù a choisinn dha fhéin airson a chuid obrach. An 1991, bhuannaich an Comunn Dùais Sheirbhisean Dualchais Phàircean Chanada. A thuilleadh air sin, fhuaireadh taic-airgid foillseachaidh aig Taigh-tasgaidh agus Comunn Eachdraidh Eilein Eòin airson an dà leabhair, Belfast People, 1993, agus The Past is Before Us, 2003.

Chuir An Comunn gu deagh fheum maoineachas bho Phroiseact A' Mhile-bliadhna air ath-leasachadh an t- seann chlaidh agus seann Eaglaise Cléirich (1876) a thugadh anall gus a suidheachadh air a h-ais air an làraich seo fhéin mar ionad-taisbeanaidh. Gu dearbha, tha spiorad nan Gàidheal beò, slàn fhathast! Air an 28mh de 'n Òg-mhìos 2006, b'e an Comunn a' cheud bhuidheann riamh nach buin dha na h-Acaídeanaich a fhuair Dùais Petite Nycale a bhitheas 'ga toirt seachad aig Comunn Eachdraidh Sister Antoinette DesRoches. Gura h-i sin-an cliù a's àirde a th'aca ann. Bha an cliù seo 'ga bhuileachadh air a' Chomunn los gléidheadh an t-seann chlaidh anns a bheil na Frangaich agus na Gàidheil air an tiodhlaigeadh le chéile agus càrn mar chuimhneachan air an son a chuir an airde.
