1. Colonel Frank Board, MD Marker

Inscription. A graduate of Baltimore Medical College, Captain Board raised his own company of Confederate soldiers from this area in 1861. By 1862, he had earned the rank of colonel. Board was killed in action near Winchester in 1864, While acting as Brigadier General of the 58th Virginia Regiment. He was the father of Dr. John J. Board of Altavista.

While commanding his "Staunton Yeomanry", Board had been wounded twice, at Gaines Mill during the Seven Days Battles and at the Wilderness in May, 1864. In the skirmish in which he was killed, he had taken command on the field after General Lilley was wounded and captured.

He was married to Buena Vista Arnold from Arnoldton Plantation near Lynch Station.
