1. Gabriel Butler Cemetery Marker

Inscription.
Gabriel Butler was one of earliest settlers of Lauderdale County (shown in 1809 Chief Doublehead Reserve Tenant List.) Born 1779 in South Carolina. Died 1856, and buried with 11 descendants within these rock walls hewn from nearby clifts by slaves believed to be earliest cemetery in county. His pioneer home located on hill across from cemetery.

Erected 1984.

Marker is located on the south end of a prominent rock wall in the center part of the Butler Cemetery.
