1. Bénet House Marker
Inscription. Reconstructed on colonial foundations, this home was in the ownership of the prominent Minorcan Benét family for a century. Esteban Benét acquired the property in 1804, shortly before he and his ship were lost at sea. The property passed to his son Pedro. Pedro Benét spent his childhood in the military town of Spanish St. Augustine. As an adult, he lived in American St. Augustine after 1821, where he became an influential political figure in local government and was known as Peter Benét. One of Pedro's 10 children was General Stephen Vincent Benét (1827-1895), a distinguished West Point graduate. The general's grandsons, Stephen Vincent Benét and William Rose Benét, were Pulitzer Prize-winning authors - Stephen in 1929 and William in 1941. Sister Laura Benét was a newspaper editor and author.

Reconstructed in 1963 by the State of Florida.
