1. The Shipyard Marker

Inscription. At the top of the marker, inscribed in a circle around an anchor, is the word Hope and the dates 1636 - 1936.

Entrance to the shipyard 1834-1874 whence sailed whalers and merchantmen hewn from native timber, commanded by native sons.

At the bottom of the marker is inscribed a ship under cronstruction on the ways.

Erected 1936 by State of Rhode Island.
