Sara van Dantzig (77) was the youngest of ten children. She was born on November 20, 1865, in Gouda, the daughter of Mozes van Dantzig and Judith Olman. She ran her shop on Hoogstraat and lived at Markt 43; this house is now part of the restaurant Gewoon Gouds. The shop on Hoogstraat was a fashion store that she managed together with her sister Sophia. Her sister Sophia passed away in 1942…

almost all remaining Jews in Gouda were deported—the elderly Sara was taken away via the Jewish home for the elderly. She was first transported by train to Westerbork and subsequently to Sobibor. She died there on April 23, 1943, at the age of 77. Two of her brothers, who lived in Amsterdam, were also killed by the Nazis.
