Inscription. The many beautiful plants in this pocket prairie are native to this neighborhood, absorb water, and teach us about our region's variety of ecosystems. The nectar and seeds they produce are also critical to dwindling populations of native bees, butterflies, and migratory birds. Lastly, this garden is a living laboratory that teaches us science and ignites our imagination!

A Pocket of Rare Habitat
The coastal prairie of Texas and Louisiana is one of the most endangered natural areas on Earth.

This lush grassland once covered over 9 million acres, including most of the Katy area. Today, very little of the prairie remains in pristine condition.

Every piece of prairie matters even small plantings like this one at The Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum.
