Originally, the opening for the swimming pool beside the Honor Roll marker was formed when a box-shaped quarry, operated by the Tenino Stone Company, was abandoned after workers accidentally struck a natural freshwater spring in 1918. The spring quickly flooded the pit, forcing them to leave their equipment behind, which still rests at the bottom. Converted to a public swimming pool in 1950, the pool’s depth ranges from about three to four feet at the shallow end to several hundred feet at its deepest point.
