St. Robert in Pulaski County, Missouri — The American Midwest (Upper Plains)
Skyline Garage Auto Service
Route 66, also known as America's Mother Road, has been a popular route for travelers from all over the world since its inception in 1926.
It was the primary route for essential travel between the Midwest and the West for American commercial, military, and civilian transportation until it was decommissioned in 1985. It connected small towns and cities across the nation as America's "Main Street," following the path of older trails and railroads. As automobiles became a more popular mode of transportation, auto services were needed for travelers experiencing fan belt, radiator, and tire issues.
Skyline Garage was one such business that operated as a garage and auto service, later transitioning to Skyline Welding. The business was a partnership between John Paul Richardson and Judith McMurtrey. Richardson and Judith's husband Dale worked together for almost 50 years. The business was located at 894 Old Business Route 66, St. Robert. In 2023, the sign was acquired for restoration and preservation at the Route 66 Neon Park.
