1. Former Site of Truck Company No. 1 Marker
The current site of the Johnstown Firefighters Memorial Park was originally the location of the Good Will Hose Hook and Ladder Company, which was organized in 1868. They were the only ladder company in the City. During the Great Flood of 1889, the building and equipment was destroyed. On June 28, 1889, a meeting was held with the decision to rebuild at the current location.
Upon the formation of the paid fire department in May of 1906, the name of the company was changed to "Truck Company No. 1" with a staffing of 8 men and Captain Michael Kazameak being the officer in charge.
Also housed at this station was the City Police Patrol Unit. With the completion of the Public Safety Building in 1925, Truck Company No. 1, along with Engine Company No. 1, moved to the new location.
In a Johnstown Tribune article dated April 1, 1927, the fire station was set to be razed to make way for an approach to the new Franklin Street Bridge that was being planned, and the remaining land was to be used for a park.
