Inscription.
The home of Evelyn Gandy (1920-2007) was built ca. 1905. Born in Hattiesburg, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1943. In 1947, Gandy was elected to the House of Representatives and co-authored legislation creating the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Elected state treasurer, insurance commissioner. and lieutenant governor, she was the first woman to hold each of these elected offices.
