Inscription.
For many years, until removed in November of 1991, this corner in Mount Dora was the site of the city water tower.

The fire department had a large whistle on the tower to advise volunteers of fires. The number of times it sounded indicated where to meet. Neighbors remember the daily noon whistle as a “Normal part of our lives”. Some found “something comforting about it” and others recall “climbing the tower at midnight” as teenagers!

In 2015, the first person to pursue the challenge of creating a park on the site was an adjacent neighbor, Doris Cole. She shared her thoughts with the City Council and with their encouragement, Doris contacted others to form a team. Neighbor Mary C. Miller agreed to coordinate the effort and the ‘Serenity Park Team’ became official. This hard working team of neighbors presented proposals, passed out flyers and created a brick fundraising program. The Mount Dora Community Trust supported the park by awarding funds for several projects.

The City of Mount Dora contributed greatly, and under the leadership of the Parks and Recreation Department, the park was completed in the Fall of 2017.

shape of the ‘Little Free Library’ is in recognition of the old water tower and the many memories it left behind. By adding legs and a door to an old gas tank, the perfect “library” was created. Today, it is visited, restocked, and enjoyed often.
