Rosa Scott School
In the early 1920s, Rosa A. Scott (1874-1938) helped raise funds to build a school at this site. With matching funds provided by the Rosenwald Foundation, the school was completed in 1924. At her request, Scott, who served as principal, was buried on the school's grounds. In 1959, a new school was built for Madison County's African American students and named for Rosa Scott. Following integration, Rosa Scott became a middle school and in 2004 was redesignated for ninth grade students.
