1. The First Recorded North West Mounted Police Patrol in this Valley Marker
Inscription.
The first recorded patrol was made into this valley on the 3rd August 1893 by Insp. A. E. Snyder of the North West mounted police and was followed, in 1903 by Cst. M. Bailey who remained in the area for about one month. It was not until 1913 that a member of the Royal North West Mounted Police was stationed here permanently. It is believed that the first cells were located at what is now 415 Geikie Street which was destroyed by fire and subsequently relocated at 308 Patricia Street. In 1921 the Force moved its office quarters and cells to 501 Geikie Street and remained in that rented building until 1926 when this building was completed. At this time, this building housed the Jasper Sub/District Headquarters with Insp. E. G. Frere commanding. 1932 saw the closure of the Sub/District but this building continued to be used as Jasper detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In January of 1974, the offices were moved from this location to more modern and spacious accommodation two blocks west of this site.

1. North West Mounted Police (Wikipedia).
Excerpt:  The North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) was a Canadian paramilitary police force, established in 1873, to maintain order in the new Canadian North-West Territories (NWT) following the 1870 transfer of Rupert's Land and North-Western Territory from the Hudson's Bay Company to Canada. The NWMP was established by the Canadian government during the ministry of Prime Minister Sir John Macdonald who defined its purpose as “the preservation of peace and the prevention of crime” in the vast NWT. Macdonald envisioned the police force as a para-military force, writing that the “best force would be mounted riflemen, trained

to act as cavalry... and styled police”.

2. Jasper Municipal Library History.
Excerpt:  The Jasper Municipal Library was founded on November 12, 1942. The original location was in the basement of the Jasper Park Information Building. In 1975 the Library relocated to a historic building, which was constructed in 1926 as the Jasper Sub/District Headquarters of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The RCMP moved to a new, larger, and more modern building. The library did extensive renovations to the interior of the building, attempting to maintain its original charm.
