1. Controlling the River Marker

For hundreds of years, kings, queens and governments controlled river traffic and shipped military supplies from this wharf.

In the 1800s this end of Tower Wharf was crowded with factories assembling weapons.

Tower Bridge opened in 1894. It was designed to ease road traffic while maintaining river access to the busy Pool of London docks.

2. Controlling the River Marker
The marker is located directly beneath the Tower Bridge entrance.

This icon of London spans the River Thames and is located next to the Tower of London.
