Tom Hoy and the Hoy Drug Store
[Inset photo shows] Tom Hoy, a local pharmacist, and Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mount Rushmore, in front of the Hoy Drug Store in 1931. Mr. Hoy never owned a car and Mr. Borglum seldom drove one. Mr. Hoy is reported to have done the work of a "Doc" at a nearby Pool Hall when a real doctor was unavailable, stitching up injured people on a pool table (used as his operating table) while the patrons held lanterns for light. He also prepared bodies for burial.
Note the backstop for the baseball field in the center of town.
