Auguste Happold
(1861–1948)
Auguste Happold was the first woman to help shape Feuerbach’s affairs as a municipal council member. From 1919 to 1933, she served as the council’s first and only female member.
Auguste Happold came to Feuerbach in 1879 as the wife of industrialist August Happold. Together, the couple supported education, charitable work and healthcare in the community. In 1886, they helped establish the private secondary-school association and donated an impressive building on what is now Leobener Straße. In 1897, the building became the home of the private girls’ school that the Happolds had also helped establish. In gratitude, it was named the Happold-Stift. After August Happold’s death, Auguste continued her work for Feuerbach. On her 70th birthday, Lord Mayor Wilhelm Geiger praised her outstanding service to the city and especially to its residents. Auguste Happold died in Feuerbach in 1948 at the age of 87.
The Auguste Happold figure was donated by Liane and Wolfgang Völker.
