Lon Chaney Cabin
Lon Chaney was a silent film actor in the roaring 1920's. He was known as "The Man of a Thousand Faces" for his ability to transform himself into many different characters with cutting-edge makeup techniques.
Chaney also loved to relax and fish in the mountains. In 1929 he hired renowned architect Paul Revere Williams to design and build a summer cabin at a favorite family camp. Sadly, Chaney was only able to enjoy the cabin for a few months before his passing. In 1964 the location became part of the Congressionally designated John Muir Wilderness. The special use permit for the cabin expired in 1980 and the cabin subsequently reverted to government ownership.
Lon Chaney Cabin is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, which is a program that helps protect and identify America's historical and archaeological resources.
