1. The Stone Cross Marker
Inscription. This monument is the base of a Late Medieval Stone Cross erected between the years 1470 and 1500 halfway between the settlements of Merche and Mercheford and could have marked the location of a market. Once there was a stone cross built into the base. Four crests, now badly eroded displayed roses, lion rampant and the heraldic emblems of the late Plantagenet period. The entire central column was removed during the reign of Henry VIII and the parish registers record that in the sixth year of the reign of King Edward VI, a local workman was paid 2d to "fill in the hole".

This plaque commemorates the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
