(English Translation)
The mathematician Carl Louis Ferdinand von Lindemann, born on April 12, 1852, in Hannover and died on March 6, 1939, in Munich, spent his earliest years here at the former Langestraße 26. In 1882, his investigations into the number π established that squaring the circle with a compass and straightedge is impossible. He thereby solved one of the oldest mathematical problems.
