Inscription.

F.E. Warren AFB has operated three types of intercontinental ballistic missiles during the Cold War period. The first, which became operational in 1960, was the Atlas missile which is not represented here. Its liquid oxygen and RP-1 fueled rocket engines could deliver a single thermonuclear warhead 6,325 miles at a speed of 16,000 miles per hour. Its two and one-half stages were jettisoned after launch, and the half-stage rocket motors set the proper speed and trajectory for the rocket's preselected target. The missiles were housed above ground in concrete "coffins". The Atlas missile was deactivated in 1963 and replaced by the Minuteman missile.

Erected by F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
