On this corner was located the famous night school
which was established for the welfare of the Cuban
emigres of the flourishing cigar center. Classes were
conducted by Don Jose Guadalupe Rivero. To these
compatriots who worked with tabacco leaves in the
day and book leaves at night, Josi Marti, praising
their revolutionary efforts confessed, "I thought I
was coming to do something, but I find that everything
has been done".
