Hardee's Corps,
Army of the Mississippi This brigade, with its regiments in order from left to right as above, attacked the enemy at 8 A.M. April 6, 1862 and was repulsed with severe loss. Being reinforced it advanced again and at 10 A.M. drove back the Union line beyond Shiloh Church.

The 6th Miss. charged the position at Rhea house and lost in killed and wounded 300 out of 425 engaged.

More about this marker. The marker is one of a group of three at the point where Corinth Road crosses Shiloh Branch.

Regarding Cleburne's Brigade. Cleburne's brigade divided as it charged into the muddy ravine of Shiloh Branch. Cleburne tried to lead directly through the morass, and was thrown from his horse. Most of his brigade went north toward Buckland's position (Army of the Tennessee, 5th Div., 4th Brigade) at Shiloh Church, but as noted on the marker, the 6th Mississippi went to the right into Rhea Field where they engaged with Hildebrand's brigade (Army of the Tennessee, 5th Div., 3rd Brigade).
