Regarding Baca Home. In 1907, Gregorio Baca, born in 1877, bought this house from Gustav and Louise Becker for his bride, Chona Ortega, born in 1885. Both the Bacas and the Ortegas were prominent Spanish families from the area. The families ran extensive herds of cattle and sheep on vast amount of land throughout Concho, St. Johns, Round Valley and the White Mountains. Chona and Gregorio built their flock to over 9,000 head and owned many properties in Springerville.
