1. Brig. Gen. William Irvine Marker
Inscription. Irish born, educated in medicine, Irvine practiced in Carlisle till the Revolutionary War. Led a Pennsylvania Regiment in important campaigns. In 1781, chosen by Washington to command western department, headquartered at Fort Pitt. Headed Pennsylvania militia in quelling the Whiskey Rebellion.
