Jaroslav Heyrovský was born to Leopold and Clara Heyrovský on December 20, 1890. In 1909 he began his studies of chemistry, physics, and mathematics at Charles University in Prague, and continued them at University College of London, receiving his degree in 1913. He continued his studies, receiving a PhD from Charles University in 1918, and DSc in London in 1921.
Heyrovský died on March 27, 1967, and is buried in Vyšehrad cemetery in Prague.

2. The Building in Which Jaroslav Heyrovský Was Born
Heyrovský received his Nobel Prize for his pioneering work in polarography, a chemical method employing electodes which make it possible to determine the composition of chemical solutions. Per the Nobel Prize Organization's biography, "Heyrovský's invention of the polarographic method dates from 1922 and he concentrated his whole further scientific activity on the development of this new branch of electrochemistry. He formed a school of Czech polarographers in the University, and was himself in the forefront of polarographic research. In 1950 Heyrovský was appointed Director of the newly established Polarographic Institute which has since been incorporated into the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences since 1952."
