Inscription. Meharry Medical College, established in 1876 through the efforts of Dr. George W. Hubbard, Dr. Willliam J. Sneed, and Samuel Meharry, is the only AMA accredited, privately endowed, predominantly Negro medical school in the world. During its first 90 years of service, it trained more Negro physicians & dentists than any other institution.
 
Erected 1969 by The Historical Commission of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County. (Marker Number 19.)
