4. 13th New Jersey's Mid-day Position
As part of the "pocket" that held the Dunker Church through the mid-day phase of the battle, the 13th New Jersey defended on this slope, to the west of the Dunker Church. The 13th anchored the right flank of the perimeter, and faced down hill, on the north side of this slope. The photograph was taken from the West Woods Hiking trail, just to the north of the 34th New York Monument. The "pipes" in the background protect saplings and are part of a program to restore the historical wood line.
