This regiment was engaged on Sept. 19th, 1863, between 4:30 and 5:30 P.M. about 400 yds. north of Viniard's and about 200 yds. east of the Rossville Road. This position was held by this regiment on Sunday, Sept. 20th, from 1:30 till 7:00 P.M. when ordered to retired to retire to Rossville. Before taking this position it was heavily engaged from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. about 600 yds. south of the site of this monument.

Location. 34° 55.772′ N, 85° 16.046′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Walker County. Memorial can be reached from Vittetoe Road west of Vittetoe-Chickamauga Road, on the right when traveling west. This historical marker is located in the northwest section of the Chickamauga National Military Park, along a ridge called Snodgrass Hill. To view this historical marker drive to the parking area in front of the Snodgrass House and the marker can be seen situated in the field just to the northeast of the Snodgrass House. More about this marker. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the monument is, “Three-part granite monument, 7'3" x 4'8" x 7'. Rock-faced base supports slightly tapered shaft that contains raised lettering flanked by crossed bayonets & cartridge box in relief. Capstone is rock-faced and carries bronze state seal.”
The National Park Service also identifies the Smith Granite Company of Westerly, Rhode Island as being the Architect of this monument.
