Pawnee Rock,
situated on the route
of the Santa Fe Trail,
frequently was used
as a camping ground
and a lookout for protection
from the Indians
by the brave men and women
who traveled over the trail

 
Erected 1941 by the Kansas Society, Daughters of the American Revolution.
