Victor Schoolhouse
1881
The Victor Common Schoolhouse, District #101, was used from 1881-1954 in Rossville, Kansas. The first teacher at this one-room school had 20 students and was paid $30 per month. Besides teaching, the teacher also served as the school nurse and custodian of the building. At least twice a year, the teacher would plan a program of student performance and recitations that would be attended by the entire community.
The school year began after fall harvest and ended prior to spring planting. The schoolhouse was also the location of town meetings and gatherings. Historic Ward-Meade park acquired this schoolhouse in 1982.
Erected by Old Prairie Town.
