Inscription. Salvaged from the waters of the tidal zone around Fort Sumter, these bricks were placed in this wall 140 years after the beginning of the Civil War.

The bricks that accompany the marker were the result of damage done to the fort by the naval bombardment during the Civil War. This photo from inside Fort Sumter shows damage done to the brick walls. A projectile is visible on the left.
