1. Zane Grey's Cabin Marker
An Ohio born dentist, Zane Grey spent many years under the Mogollon Rim, writing "To the Last Man" and a dozen other westerns with Arizona settings and characters. His prolific writings popularized the American cowboy as a taciturn, romantic figure.
Erected 1964 by Arizona Development Board and Arizona Highway Department.

More about this marker. Marker was originally placed on Arizona Highway 260 at milepost 268, and was moved here when a replica of the cabin was built on the grounds of the Rim Country Museum.
Regarding Zane Grey's Cabin. The original Zane Grey cabin was located 18 miles east of Payson along Tonto Creek beneath the Mogollon Rim. The cabin was built in the early 1920’s and burned in the 1990 Dude Fire. The replica of the cabin was opened in Payson’s award-winning Green Valley Park in 2005.
