married Duff Green of Falmouth on Dec. 23, 1824, the Reverend John Jones officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Green had ten children: Col. William Green, Alexander M. Green, Elizabeth Marion Green, James Lane Green, McDuff Green, Arthur Payne Green, Isabella Green, Elvira L. Green, and Nannie Green.

He was a farmer and merchant before the war, and a Lieutenant Colonel in the 47th Virginia Infantry Regiment (the Stafford Guards), Confederate States of America (CSA) when he was killed in action while marshalling his troops at Cold Harbor in 1862, during the Seven Days Battles.
