1. Battery Location
While the monument lists the battery location as near the monument, several other sources indicate the battery was absent from the battle. The Antietam Battlefield Board map set breaks down the positions of the armies in an hour by hour arrangement. But Dement's Battery is not indicated at this position for any time of the day. In Artillery Hell: The Employment of Artillery at Antietam by Curt Johnson and Richard C. Anderson, Jr., the battery is listed as one not engaged and most likely remaining at Harpers Ferry (page. 104).
