At 11 o'clock A.M. the Battery moved from its position near Lee and Gordon's Mill, joined Grose's Brigade at Poe's about noon, and immediately advanced into action in rear of the Brigade which was in double line. After marching several hundred yards Col. Grose ordered the Battery into position on the crest of the ridge southeast of this position. Immediately on coming into Battery, the Brigade was attacked and the guns were ordered to be fired down the hill over the heads of the infantry. The enemy finally withdrew and the firing ceased for some time. About 3 o'clock the enemy moved up a second time in heavy force. At this period they could be seen distinctly, and loading with canister the battery fired as rapidly as possible.
The attack was too heavy to be resisted and the infantry falling back, the Battery limbered up and retired to this position forming on right of Cushing's Battery. The enemy continuing to advance, the Batteries on this line from some twenty guns opened with canister and speedily repulsed him. The Battery

More about this marker. I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the monument number for this marker and the marker's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System)."
