1. Old Stone Chimney Marker
Built by French 1750, 100 ft. westward in Fort Little Niagara's barracks which they burned in 1759. To it British built in 1761, the Stedman House (where that master of the portage lived until U.S. occupation in 1796), which in 1808, became Broughton's Tavern, burned by British in devastation of 1813. Re-erected here in 1898 by Niagara Falls Power Company. Marked by the Niagara Frontier Historical Society in 1915.

Location. 43° 4.731′ N, 79° 2.727′ W. Marker is in Niagara Falls, New York, in Niagara County. Marker can be reached from Niagara Scenic Parkway (State Road 957A) half a mile east of Buffalo Avenue, on the right when traveling east. In 2015, the Old Stone Chimney was moved to an interpretive site on the south side of the Robert Moses Parkway (re-named Niagara Scenic Parkway in 2016) just east of the boat slip. The Old Stone Chimney was difficult to find prior to the move. Access was through private property via blacktop alongside the vacant industrial building at 995 Buffalo Avenue,

More about this marker. The marker (plaque) does not have a title. It is affixed to The Old Stone Chimney. The French origins are uncertain according to a Niagara County Historical Society article. The portage refers to the land portage around Niagara Falls and the rapids before and after the falls, for travel and transport between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

The Robert Moses Parkway is being reconfigured and will be renamed Niagara Scenic Parkway in 2016. The ramp behind the chimney is gone in favor of a roundabout.
