Inscription. Near here stood the house of Adam Thorowgood (1604-1640), who arrived in Virginia as an indentured servant in 1621. After completing his service, Thorowgood became a leading citizen in Lower Norfolk County. In 1635, he received 5350 acres of land for bringing 105 English settlers to Virginia including himself and his wife, Sarah.
