Inscription. This site is part of Corte Madera de Novato granted by Governor Juan Alvarado to John Martin in 1840. Purchased by Jefferson A. Thompson in 1865. A working ranch and cheese making family of five generations, that continued to make the world famous Rouge et Noir brand cheese. A great tribute to the dairy industry.

Erected 1985 by Native Sons of the Golden West.
